My Musings :

I received an ebook free of charge for an honest review.

The book cover didn't garner my attention as much as the blurb. Dystopia has always been a sought after genre of mine. I rarely find really good gems in it. The blurb intrigued me and the beginning of the story was suspenseful and was very fast in its going.

After a while, the pace kind of petered out. I was left wondering what was happening because there wasn't much action at all. It went from a fast paced good read to a tortoise speed read. But other than the pace, the story was rather good.

The protagonist, Katie is a very strong leader. The people flock to her, following her easily because of the difference in her. There were instances where I did wonder why she was doing whatever she was doing at the point. There were a few confusing instances. I would have rather liked them to be better explained. I hope the second book does a better job of getting the point across to the reader about the happenings.

None of the other characters made as much of an impact as Katie for me. While the world building is better than the story's pace, I would prefer to have the trio - world, pace and characters to be better worked on. The author's writing style was good. It was easy to follow and a delight at times.

The dystopian world is unique and I would like to know more about it and am curious of what's going to happen next.

My rating : 3/5
